Why CareO’Clock

You should not have to wonder
if your loved one is okay.

Most families come to us after a frustrating experience with a caregiver who did not show up, a call that went unreturned, or a visit that left more questions than answers. We built CareO’Clock to fix exactly that.

Smiling CareO'Clock caregiver with a happy senior client

When a parent starts needing a little more help at home, the first instinct is to do it all yourself. But that is not always possible, and it is not always what your loved one actually needs. What they need is a consistent, caring person who knows their routines, respects their dignity, and shows up when they are supposed to.

CareO’Clock is a Nova Scotia-based home care platform connecting Halifax seniors and their families with verified private caregivers. Every caregiver on our platform holds a current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening, has their credentials confirmed before their first shift, and is rated by clients after every single visit.

When your caregiver arrives, you get notified. When they leave, you get notified. No guessing. No wondering. Just the peace of mind that comes from knowing someone you trust is with the person you love.

Who We Help

Care designed around
real Halifax families.

Home care for Halifax seniors looks different for every family. Some need a certified CCA for regular personal care. Others are looking for respite care so a family member can take a breath. And some just want dependable companionship and light household help for a parent who is doing well but should not be left alone all day. CareO’Clock serves all of them.

Every family situation is different. Some people need a few hours of help each week. Others need regular support while recovering from surgery, or while a family caregiver takes a break. Here is who we work with most often:

  • Seniors living independently who want a few hours of trusted help each week to manage daily life safely in their own home.
  • Family caregivers who need a break. Respite care lets you step away knowing your loved one is with someone qualified and caring.
  • Families living at a distance who need trustworthy local care they can monitor and stay informed about from anywhere in Canada.
  • Seniors recovering from surgery or illness who need short-term in-home support during rehabilitation before returning to full independence.
  • Individuals with mobility needs who require regular personal care from a certified Continuing Care Assistant.

Trust and Safety

Every caregiver is verified.
Every visit is on record.

Letting someone into your home to care for a vulnerable family member takes an enormous amount of trust. Here is exactly how CareO’Clock earns it.

Every private caregiver on the CareO’Clock platform is a qualified healthcare professional in their category, whether that is a certified CCA, a CCAIT working toward full certification, or a screened and rated Sitter. Halifax families can view caregiver credentials directly in their client dashboard before and during every appointment.

Credential Verification

Every caregiver’s qualifications and eligibility documents are reviewed and confirmed before they join the platform. No exceptions.

Background Checked

All caregivers hold a current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening, both obtained within the last two months at onboarding.

Real-Time Check-In and Out

Caregivers check in and out through the CareO’Clock app. Precise, timestamped records are kept for every appointment automatically.

Rated After Every Visit

Clients rate caregivers on punctuality, communication, and quality of care after each visit. Low-rated caregivers are reviewed without delay.

Protected Health Information

Sensitive client health details are only accessible to the assigned caregiver during the active appointment window and are automatically revoked once the visit ends.

Zero Tolerance Policy

Abuse, theft, misconduct, or falsification of any kind results in immediate and permanent removal from the platform, with referral to appropriate authorities.

Common Questions

Questions families
ask us all the time.

Choosing a private caregiver for someone you love comes with a lot of questions. Here are straight answers to the ones we hear most often.

What is the difference between a CCA, a CCAIT, and a Sitter?

A Certified CCA is a fully qualified Continuing Care Assistant registered in Nova Scotia, trained to deliver personal care including bathing, mobility transfers, and hands-on health support in the home.

A CCAIT (CCA in Training or CCA Internationally Trained) is working toward full Nova Scotian certification and can perform personal care tasks suited to their current level of training.

A Sitter provides companionship, light housekeeping, errands, and non-personal-care support. Sitters are a great fit for seniors who are largely independent but benefit from company, household help, and a caring presence.

When you book, CareO’Clock only matches you with caregivers qualified for the services you have selected. You will never be sent someone who is not right for your loved one’s needs.

How do I know the caregiver actually showed up for the full visit?

Every caregiver checks in and out of your appointment through the CareO’Clock app. Check-in is only available within 30 minutes of the scheduled start time, and the exact timestamp is recorded automatically. You can log into your client dashboard at any point to see visit status and duration. If a caregiver does not check in, the system flags the appointment and our administration team is alerted right away.

Can I request the same caregiver for every visit?

Consistency matters a lot, especially for seniors. While we cannot guarantee the same caregiver every time, caregivers who have received high ratings from a client are prioritised in the matching process for future appointments at the same address. You can note your preferences in your care profile when booking.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?

You can cancel any appointment free of charge up to 24 hours before the scheduled start time. Cancellations made within 24 hours after a caregiver has been assigned may incur a late-cancellation fee, which is displayed clearly before you confirm. A full refund is issued for all eligible cancellations. To reschedule, cancel and rebook directly from your client dashboard.

Is my loved one’s health information kept private?

Yes, and this is something we take very seriously. Health information in your care profile is only accessible to the caregiver assigned to a specific appointment, and only during the active visit window. Access is automatically revoked the moment the visit ends or is cancelled. All data is handled in accordance with applicable privacy legislation. Full details are in our Data Privacy Policy.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Appointments must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. This gives caregivers enough time to accept, review your loved one’s care information, and prepare properly. For ongoing care needs, booking a few days ahead gives you the best availability in your area.

Is there a minimum visit length?

Yes. Appointments have a minimum total service duration of two hours. This ensures caregivers are compensated fairly and that visits are long enough to provide meaningful, unhurried care. The services you choose at booking combine toward the total appointment length.

Which Halifax neighbourhoods do you serve?

We serve families across the Halifax Regional Municipality, including South End Halifax, Downtown Halifax, North End Halifax, Armdale, Rockingham, Clayton Park, Fairview, Spryfield, Bayers Lake, Dartmouth, Bedford, Timberlea, Hammonds Plains, and surrounding communities. Visit our service area page to check your postal code.
